My Summer Flowers- Then and Now

Earlier this summer I did an article on the flowers I picked for this season. . I went a little different than I usually do; selecting annuals that would hold up to weekends of no watering and  a little less maintenance than the flowers I usually select. Admittedly, I was a little hesitant because I tend to look at my potted annuals as little works of art, trying to outdo myself each year. I often use a variety of flowers and colors in one pot, but this summer I went with less variety in color, but used bolder colors.  These are the pictures […]

Eclectic Finds

A rainy day on our vacation at Isle of Palms, South Carolina led me to check out this interesting shop in nearby Mt. Pleasant. When a shop says Eclectic Finds and you are a home decor junkie, it is pretty hard not to want to check this place out.  Outside of this shop was a variety of interesting yard decor including beautiful blue and green handmade pottery, statues, iron work  and more. You couldn’t help but notice these gems as your drove by.   When you see an assortment of things like this outside of the store, you know you […]

My Love-Hate Relationship with Hostas

Hostas. Love ’em. Hate ’em. As I was walking around my yard, scoping out what is doing well and not doing well in my yard this summer, I realized that my hostas are absolutely stunning at times and yet at other times I want to dig them up and do away with them. Hostas are a staple in landscaping. There are hostas for shade, hostas for sun. There are too many varieties to count.  I really can’t imagine my landscaping without them, but when they don’t look good, well….&$@#!

Summer Home Tour Part 2- Kitchen and Dining Room

In today’s summer home tour,  I’ll be sharing my kitchen and living room.  Thanks for stopping by. As you can see, my kitchen is open to my family room so I have to tie everything together when I am decorating.  If you visited my last post, you know that I have a coastal theme in the family room for summer and it was continued into the kitchen. Tan and white striped placemats add a summery coastal feel without going too over the top.  I have two teenage boys. Having wipeable placemats is a must. The coral chandelier is from Ballard Designs. I […]

Summer Home Tour Part 1-Bringing Coastal Style to My Family Room

Welcome to Part 1 of my summer home tour! I LOVE summer. I love the beach. I love the sun, the sand, the water, the colors. Everyone is happy and relaxed at the beach.  Nothing would make me happier than to live in a bright and airy beach house. But I live in Pennsylvania, so the only time I can really get away with so many coastal touches in my home is during the summer. I may go a tad too far with the coastal theme, but it makes me happy, so I do it. I am going to start with a […]

Simplified Anti-Aging Skin Care Routine

My posts are  mainly about home decorating and DIY projects, but I thought I would share my simplified anti-aging skin care routine. I am what some may call a “product junkie” having tried a multitude of skin care products over the years. I’ve always taken care of my skin, but I have always loved the sun and with getting older, well, let’s just say, things were getting scary. Off I went to an excellent and well-known dermatologist/cosmetic surgeon for my first  dermatology appointment ever in my mid 40’s. It was after that visit, that I stopped trying all kinds of skin care […]

Catmint- a Perennial for Even the Worst Gardener

Over 15 years ago, I became a perennial flower enthusiast and with the help of my husband, created two large perennial flower beds. We have since moved and I don’t have the best location for perennial flower beds like I used to, but I manage to squeeze them in here and there. I want to share one of my favorite perrenials with you- Catmint (Nepeta).  Catmint was used in my perennial gardens at my last home and I have several planted at my current home. Catmint is a cottage-type flower that you may often see planted with peonies, roses and other cottage-type […]

My Summer Flowers

It is that time of year again. Time to plant my summer annual flowers. I am a little ahead of schedule because it has been a very warm week here in Pennsylvania. There shouldn’t be any more frost, so I went to the nursery, actually nurseries, yesterday and loaded up.  This is what I came back with. I went a bit of a different route this year. Usually I pick an assortment of cottage-style flowers, but this year, I kept practicality in mind. We are gone many weekends in the summer and keeping up with the flower watering can be […]
